Should I Be Double Cleansing? The Do's & Dont's
Share
Double cleansing has become a popular skincare practice, especially in the world of K-beauty. It involves using two different types of cleansers to thoroughly cleanse the skin, first with an oil-based cleanser followed by a water-based cleanser
(Please note.. you CAN use 2 different cleansers OR the same cleanser twice, it does not HAVE to be an oil based product first).
This method is extremely useful for anyone with oily skin. You know how when you first wash your hair the shampoo doesn't really lather up? That's due to all the dirt, oil and product that has build up so initially all thats being done is rinsing all that away. It isn't until the second go 'round that you can really get a good sudsy lather on your scalp for a nice deep clean.
The same can apply to your skin.
1- Remove dirt, oil & impurities.
2- Deep clean
While this method can effectively remove makeup, sunscreen, and impurities, it's important to know the do's and don'ts to avoid damaging your skin.
(Please note.. you CAN use 2 different cleansers OR the same cleanser twice, it does not HAVE to be an oil based product first)
Here's a guide to help you get the most out of double cleansing:
DO:
- Use the Right Cleansers:
- Use an oil-based cleanser as the first step to break down makeup, sunscreen, and excess sebum.
- Follow up with a gentle, water-based cleanser to remove any remaining impurities without stripping the skin.
- Choose the Right Oil-Based Cleanser:
- Look for an oil-based cleanser that suits your skin type. For oily skin, opt for a lightweight, non-comedogenic formula. Dry skin types may benefit from a richer, more nourishing oil cleanser.
- Use Lukewarm Water:
- Use lukewarm water to rinse off the cleansers. Hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation.
- Follow Up with Moisturizer:
- After double cleansing your skin can get really dry, apply one of our moisturizers such as Supreme Face Cream to hydrate and protect your skin. This will help maintain your skin's natural moisture barrier.
DON'T:
- Overdo It:
- Double cleansing is typically recommended at night to remove makeup and sunscreen. Doing it twice a day might be too harsh for your skin, especially if you have dry or sensitive skin.
- Skip the Water-Based Cleanser:
- The second step of double cleansing is crucial to remove any leftover residue from the oil cleanser. Skipping this step can lead to clogged pores and breakouts.
- Rub Too Harshly:
- Be gentle with your skin, especially around the delicate eye area. Use light, circular motions to massage the cleansers into your skin.
- Use Harsh Ingredients:
- Avoid cleansers with harsh ingredients like sulfates, which can strip the skin and cause irritation. Opt for gentle, non-stripping formulas instead.
In Conclusion 'Double Cleansing' can be a game-changer for your skincare routine when done correctly. By following these do's and don'ts, you can achieve clean, radiant skin without compromising its health or integrity.
